Hi guys! I got Divergent on Wednesday and finished it yesterday afternoon! Here's what I thought!
Author: Veronica Roth (she's a genius!)
Overall rating: * * * * * (5/5)
Action rating: 5/5 - loads of fights and unexpected things!!!
Emotional rating: 5/5 - there was sadness in all the right places. It really made you feel for the characters.
Character rating: 5/5 - the characters all had parts in the story and it was all very relatable. Also, VR managed to create a few characters you instantly loved, and in other cases, instantly hated for the rest of the book!!!
Storyline rating: 5/5 - the story is genuinely amazing. It is actually one of the best books I have ever read. It takes a bit of getting your head round it but it really is good!
Basic storyline: In future-Chicago, the city is split into 5 factions that each symbolise a trait: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite.16-year-old Beatrice is born into Abnegation and has to choose which one she will grow up in. But the aptitude test shows she is something different . . .
Recommendation: I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 11, but the back cover says 13+. I would just say check with your parents. It does have a few mentions of the 's' word, but that all in a small part that isn't mentioned again. There are a few hints at things but it is pretty clean. Anyone who liked the Hunger Games, or any other dystopian era type novels, will LOVE this book to pieces.
I'm about to start reading the second one, Insurgent, and that's sure gonna be good!!! See you later!
